Statement of Faith

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is God’s perfect guidebook for life. The Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts. It was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

John 17:17, Romans 15:4, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21

The Trinity

We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that these three are all equally and fully God, and carry out distinct but harmonious functions in the work of creation, providence and salvation.

Matthew 3:16-17, Matthew 28:19, John 1:1-4, Deuteronomy 6:4, 2 Corinthians 13:14

God the Father

We believe in God, the Father, an infinite personal being, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of each person, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

Exodus 3:14, John 3:16-17, John 4:24, James 1:17

God the Son

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son. We believe that He is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We believe in His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into Heaven, His high priestly intercession on behalf of His children, and His future, literal return to earth.

Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:14, John 8:58, John 10:30, Acts 1:10-11, Philippians 2:5-11, Colossians 1:15, Hebrews 4:14-16

God the Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, empower and preserve all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.

John 14:26, John 16:7-15, Romans 8:14-17, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, Ephesians 1:13-14, 2 Thessalonians 2:13

People

We believe that all people are sinners (by nature and by choice) and are, therefore, spiritually dead and under condemnation. We believe that those who by faith, personally trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and saved by God’s grace, which is a gift that can not be earned by any other works.

Romans 3:22-24, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:1-9

The Church

We believe in one, holy, universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of groups of believers in Jesus Christ, who meet together for worship, ministry, evangelism, discipleship and fellowship. As these purposes are fulfilled, we believe the local church brings the hope of Christ to the world.

Acts 2:42, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Colossians 1:18, Ephesians 2:10, Mark 12:30, Romans 12:5, Philippians 2:5, 1 Peter 4:10, Colossians 4:5, Matthew 22:38 – 40, Matthew 28:20

Christ-Like Conduct

We believe that followers of Christ should bring glory to God and find their ultimate satisfaction in Him. We believe that we have freedom in Christ to seek the well-being of others, to be stewards and not owners of our possessions, to pray and give thanks in all circumstances. Our conduct should be motivated by and reflective of the Holy Spirit, who produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in us as we are transformed to be

more like Christ.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, Colossians 3:12-17, Galatians 5:22-24, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Christ-Like Ordinances

We believe Jesus instituted two key ordinances that are outward symbols of an inward spiritual truth or experience. 1) Baptism is best seen by immersing someone in water and is a one-time action to be administered to believers only. Baptism does not save or cleanse from sin, but is an act that symbolizes the inward truth that one has been saved by faith and cleansed from sin. Baptism also represents our being buried with Christ to our old self and raised to walk in our new life in the Spirit. 2) Communion or the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ to remember His death. Communion is open to all who have received Christ as Savior and should be celebrated on a regular basis.

Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 8:36-38, Romans 6:3-4, 1 Corinthians 6:11, Matthew 26:26-28,1 Corinthians 11:23-29

The Last Things

We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal reward of the righteous, and the endless suffering of the wicked.

Matthew 12:36, 24:36; John 5:22, 16:8; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Peter 3:7; Jude 6
